OVER 100 ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS SIGNED A LETTER ASKING THE UGA PRESIDENT TO CONDEMN HATE SPEECH TOWARD LATINO STUDENTS

(Norcross, GA) – Today, GALEO & GALEO Impact Fund released an open letter to UGA President Morehead, urging him to show support for the Latino community in Athens. Ever since the tragic death of Laken Riley, our communities in Athens have been voicing their concerns regarding safety and harassment. Over 100 organizations and individuals signed the letter, including national organizations such as the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.

Below is a statement from Jerry Gonzalez, CEO of GALEO & GALEO Impact Fund:

“President Morehead must break his silence. Latino students and community members in Athens are facing harassment and threats. The longer President Morehead stays silent, the higher the risk these students face. This is his opportunity to speak up and ensure his students that they are being heard.”

Our organizations and community members ask that President Morehead give a response within one week. For any questions or concerns, please contact Alba Villarreal at avillarreal@galeo.org.
