Norcross, GA – As the nation turns its attention to the Supreme Court oral arguments in *CASA v. Trump*, the GALEO Impact Fund firmly supports the 14th Amendment—one of U.S. history’s most vital and transformative provisions. Hundreds will gather at the steps of the highest court in the land to defend birthright citizenship and oppose President Trump’s unconstitutional executive order, which seeks to undermine this foundational American principle.
Jerry Gonzalez, CEO of the GALEO Impact Fund, releases this statement:
“The Trump administration’s birthright citizenship executive order threatens to unravel one of the most basic principles of our democracy: birthright citizenship. Clearly stated in the 14th Amendment, this guarantee affirms that anyone born on U.S. soil is a U.S. citizen, regardless of their parents, race, or immigration status. It’s a promise enshrined in the foundational document that is our U.S. Constitution.
President Trump has made sure to directly assault that constitutional promise, as if he were king ruling by decree. Rather than defend the day one executive order, the Trump administration hopes the Supreme Court will instead lift the nationwide injunction and allow the order to proceed in parts of the country. That would fracture our nation’s legal identity and sow absolute chaos, where in one state a child is a citizen and in another, they are not. In this nation, the law should equally apply to all.”
