GALEO IMPACT FUND DEMANDS FAIR MAPS FOR GWINNETT COUNTY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GALEO IMPACT FUND DEMANDS FAIR MAPS FOR GWINNETT COUNTY

ATLANTA, GA – GALEO Impact Fund attended the State Capitol today for the Senate committee meeting on bill 6EX to expand the Gwinnett county board of commissioners. Yesterday, two Republican senators, one of which does not represent Gwinnett County, proposed said bill without any input from Gwinnett County residents.

Andres Parra, Community Organizer for GALEO Impact Fund, stated that “They rushed this bill in two days and met on Veteran’s day during school hours preventing our community from being able to participate in this process. This is another blatant strategy for politicians to maintain power through minority rule, dilute the power of people of color in Gwinnett, and sabotage one of the most diverse and successful counties in the state. If a bill like this is to go forward, local community members should propose and design it. Elected officials that cling to power by disenfranchising voters, instead of offering better policy, have no place in a functioning democracy.”

GALEO Impact Fund expresses that they will continue to advocate for fair maps across the state of Georgia, including Gwinnett County.

GALEO Impact Fund encourages all Georgians to visit georgiaunitymaps.org to see the proposed maps and their associated files.

GALEO Impact Fund is a non-profit organization based in Atlanta, Georgia, founded in 2019.
