CITY OF CHAMBLEE SHIFTS TOWARDS MORE EQUITABLE DISTRICT VOTING

(Norcross, GA) – On November 21st, 2023, the City of Chamblee unanimously adopted a resolution to restructure its election system from at-large to single-district voting. In many jurisdictions throughout the U.S., at-large voting systems have been discriminatory against people of color. People of color make up over half of the City of Chamblee’s population.

“We express our gratitude for the City of Chamblee’s resolution, a progressive first step towards a more representative government in Chamblee. This move aligns with the city’s commitment to equity, engagement, and excellence by promoting fair representation in government. We appreciate the City of Chamblee’s leadership and eagerly anticipate the positive impact on Chamblee’s democratic process. We pledge support in expediting this change during the upcoming redistricting special session in collaboration with the Dekalb County Delegation in the Georgia Legislature,” said David Garcia, Policy and Advocacy Director of the GALEO Impact Fund.

Thank you to LCF Georgia, Vecinos de Buford Highway, and We Love Buford Highway for showing up and supporting this resolution.
