Norcross, GA – GALEO Impact Fund celebrates the historic appointment of Barbara Rivera Holmes as Georgia’s new Labor Commissioner, marking a significant milestone as she becomes the first Latina to hold a statewide constitutional office in Georgia. Previously, Governor Brian Kemp made history when he named John King as Insurance Commissioner, making King the first Hispanic constitutional officer in Georgia’s history.
“Barbara Rivera Holmes’ appointment reflects the growing influence of Georgia’s Latino community and is a historic reminder that our diversity is our strength,” said Kyle Gomez-Leineweber, Director of Policy and Advocacy at GALEO Impact Fund. “GALEO Impact Fund is committed to working with Commissioner Rivera Holmes and the Georgia Department of Labor to promote fair and equitable policies that strengthen our workforce and uplift Georgia’s families.”
Rivera Holmes has a distinguished career in economic development, workforce strategy, and business advocacy. She is the former President and CEO of the Albany Area Chamber of Commerce and received a Senate Commendation from Senator Jon Ossoff for her work in that role. May her appointment inspire future generations of Latino Georgians and serve as a testament to our community’s many meaningful contributions in shaping Georgia’s success.
