The Honorable Jon Ossoff
U.S. Senator Russell Senate Office
Building Suite 455
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senators
As organizations advocating for immigrant rights in Georgia, we urge you to VOTE NO on any anti-immigrant amendments that are anticipated during the vote-a-rama for inclusion in the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. This Act is aimed at tackling climate change, raising taxes on the wealthy and improving the access to healthcare, for which we should not allow any amendments aimed at undermining immigrant rights. It is essential that Elected Officials fight every effort to advance xenophobic legislation in this process.
This is particularly true regarding Title 42. As we have consistently informed the public since its inception, Title 42, a public health measure, has been used to prevent people from applying for asylum, contravening public health experts’ recommendation to discontinue the policy. A coalition of Georgia immigrant organizations voiced our opinion about this issue back in April, and a vote to extend this white supremacist policy in the border would damage the relationship of trust between our community and your office we have been working on many other fronts since.
Most importantly, any anti-immigrant amendments introduced will affect the passage of this bill. We urge your office to vote no on any amendment that would undermine the rights of people seeking asylum and jeopardize the passage of this crucial bill.

The wind of history is on your vote in the next week, the future of our people is in your hands.
