(Norcross, GA) – The GALEO Impact Fund commends the recent Fulton County Superior Court ruling that overturned Georgia’s unconstitutional abortion ban. Judge Robert McBurney’s ruling upholds our fundamental rights to privacy and to make deeply personal decisions related to bodily autonomy and healthcare. Reproductive rights are a crucial aspect of justice and equity for all communities, including Georgia’s Latino community. Per our Puente Para La Gente survey, nearly three quarters of Latino voters in Georgia support access to reproductive healthcare– recent polling by UnidosUS has confirmed this as well.
“We remain committed to advocating for policies that preserve access to safe and legal abortions and safeguarding the health and dignity of women and families across our state,” said Kyle Gomez-Leineweber, Director of Public Policy and Advocacy. “This ruling is a step toward ensuring that all Georgians can access the healthcare they deserve, an especially salient point for Latinas and immigrant women who have historically been denied the choice to receive vital healthcare services and whose bodily autonomy has too often been dismissed.”
While the GALEO Impact Fund celebrates this ruling, we hope that it also serves as a stark reminder as to what is at stake this election.
